Description and Care

The XL Orange Tip Bubble Tip Anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor) is a magnificent marine anemone prized for its lush green coloration, delicate orange-tipped tentacles, and impressive, full-bodied appearance.

This exceptional specimen features an extraordinary abundance of elongated, flowing tentacles in brilliant emerald green, vivid lime, and subtle blue-green tones. Each tentacle is accented with a small, warm orange or golden-peach tip, creating a beautiful contrast against the predominantly green body.

The tentacles form dense, overlapping clusters that give the anemone a richly textured, almost cascading appearance. Their graceful curves and varied lengths create a sense of movement, while the numerous orange tips add hundreds of tiny points of contrasting color.

The specimen's expansive tentacle coverage and multiple rounded areas of growth produce an especially impressive display. Its lush green coloration and delicate orange highlights make it an attractive centerpiece for an established reef aquarium.

Native to tropical Indo-Pacific waters, Entacmaea quadricolor inhabits coral reefs and rocky reef-associated environments. It typically anchors its pedal disc securely within protected rock crevices while extending its tentacles into the surrounding water.

This photosynthetic species maintains a symbiotic relationship with microscopic dinoflagellates living within its tissues. These organisms provide an important source of energy through photosynthesis, while the anemone supplements its nutrition by capturing small marine prey.

Bubble Tip Anemones are also natural hosts for several clownfish species, offering shelter among their stinging tentacles for compatible fish.

The XL Orange Tip Bubble Tip Anemone combines spectacular green coloration, contrasting orange tips, and an impressive expanded appearance, making it a standout addition to a mature marine aquarium.

This WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) specimen has been individually photographed, allowing you to purchase the exact anemone pictured.

Additional Care Notes

Aquarium Environment: The XL Orange Tip Bubble Tip Anemone is best maintained in a mature, established marine aquarium with stable water chemistry, appropriate lighting, and consistent circulation. Because this is an XL specimen, additional space should be provided for expansion and possible movement.

Placement and Attachment: Entacmaea quadricolor naturally anchors its pedal disc within rocky crevices, extending its tentacles into the surrounding water. Provide secure rockwork with protected attachment locations. Avoid placing the anemone directly against neighboring corals, as it may move before establishing a preferred position.

Lighting and Water Flow: This photosynthetic species benefits from moderate to high reef lighting, introduced gradually to prevent light stress. Moderate, indirect water movement should allow the tentacles to sway naturally without continuously folding or displacing the oral disc.

Feeding and Nutrition: Symbiotic dinoflagellates supply an important portion of the anemone's energy requirements through photosynthesis. Occasional supplemental feeding with small portions of thawed mysis shrimp, finely chopped marine shrimp, or other appropriately sized marine foods can provide additional nutrition. Avoid oversized food items and excessive feeding.

Compatibility: Bubble Tip Anemones possess stinging tentacles capable of damaging neighboring corals and other sessile invertebrates. An XL specimen requires additional separation from surrounding livestock. Compatible clownfish may establish a hosting relationship, although individual behavior varies.

Clownfish Associations: Entacmaea quadricolor naturally hosts several clownfish species, including Maroon Clownfish (Amphiprion biaculeatus), Tomato Clownfish (Amphiprion frenatus), and Clark's Clownfish (Amphiprion clarkii). Captive-bred clownfish of other species may also adopt Bubble Tip Anemones, although hosting is not guaranteed.

Handling and Safety: Avoid unnecessary handling and never forcibly detach an attached anemone from its substrate. Damage to the pedal disc can compromise its health. Protect powerhead and wavemaker intakes, particularly during acclimation when the anemone may relocate.

Long-Term Care: Healthy specimens generally maintain secure attachment, regular tentacle expansion, and normal feeding responses. Bubble Tip Anemones may reproduce asexually through division under suitable conditions. The appearance of bubble-shaped tips can vary naturally, and elongated tentacles do not necessarily indicate poor health. Persistent deflation, tissue deterioration, prolonged mouth gaping, or loss of attachment may indicate stress.

Order FAQs

About Our Facility

Q: Are your corals aquacultured?
A: Yes. Many of our corals are grown in our Maryland Certified & Licensed Coral Aquaculture Facility.

Q: Why choose aquacultured corals?
A: Aquacultured corals are:
- More sustainable
- Better adapted to aquarium life
- Typically hardier than wild specimens

Q: Who selects and grows your corals?
A: Our corals are grown and curated by Dr. Mac a Board Certified Veterinary Pathologist with decades of hands-on reef experience.

Ordering & Shipping

Q: What does WYSIWYG mean?
A: “What You See Is What You Get.” The exact coral shown in the photo is the one you will receive.

Q: Can I request a specific color or variation?
A: For WYSIWYG items, what’s pictured is what you get. For non-WYSIWYG items, we do our best to match color and size, but natural variation occurs.

Q: Can I combine multiple orders to save on shipping?
A: Yes—contact us before shipping and we’ll consolidate when possible.

Q: How are corals and fish shipped safely?
A: We use insulated boxes, temperature control (heat/cold packs), and overnight delivery to ensure safe arrival.

Q: What days do you ship?
A: Typically Monday–Wednesday to avoid weekend delays.

Q: Do I need to be home for delivery?
A: Yes—someone should be available to receive livestock immediately.

Q: What if my coral or fish arrives dead (DOA)?
A: Contact us within a specified timeframe (e.g., 2 hours) with clear photos, and we will resolve it quickly.

Q: What voids the guarantee?
A: Missed deliveries, improper acclimation, or delays beyond our control.

Live Arrival Guarantee

Q: What if my coral or fish arrives dead (DOA)?
A: Contact us within a specified timeframe (e.g., 2 hours) with clear photos, and we will resolve it quickly.

Q: What voids the guarantee?
A: Missed deliveries, improper acclimation, or delays beyond our control.

Acclimation & First 24 Hours

Q: How do I acclimate new livestock?
A: Float to match temperature, then drip acclimate before placing in tank.

Q: Should I dip corals before adding them?
A: Yes but be careful, coral dips help prevent pests but use caution. Certain corals might benefit from a short quarantine period instead of a dip so as to further stressing them.

Q: Why does my coral look closed or stressed?
A: This is normal after shipping—most corals open within 24–72 hours.

Aquarium Setup & Compatibility

Q: Where should I place my coral in the tank?
A: Placement depends on the coral type (LPS, SPS, soft). Lighting and flow requirements vary—check each product description.

Q: Can different corals touch each other?
A: Many corals have sweeper tentacles and can sting neighbors. Always allow space.

Q: How fast will my coral grow?
A: Growth depends on species, lighting, water quality, and feeding.
