Acanthastrea bowerbanki, often called Bowerbanki coral, is a large-polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its thick, fleshy polyps, rounded colony growth, and rich colors that can include green, red, orange, teal, and multicolored patterns. It has a bold, puffy appearance that makes it an excellent showpiece in a reef aquarium, and its generally hardy nature makes it a favorite for hobbyists who want a coral with both strong visual impact and manageable care requirements.

For care, Acanthastrea bowerbanki does best in low to moderate lighting and low to moderate water flow. Too much light or strong, direct current can cause the tissue to stay retracted or become stressed. It should be placed where its fleshy polyps can expand comfortably without being blasted by flow, and with enough space from nearby corals. Stable water conditions are important, with temperatures around 76–80°F, salinity near 1.025, alkalinity about 8–9 dKH, calcium 400–450 ppm, and magnesium 1250–1350 ppm. Although it gets much of its energy from photosynthesis, it benefits from occasional feeding of small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or reef pellets, which can help encourage growth and fuller expansion.
