Description and Care

The Green Tip Heteractis Crispa Anemone (Heteractis crispa) is a beautiful marine anemone recognized for its elongated tentacles, delicate coloration, and natural associations with clownfish.

This attractive specimen features numerous flowing tentacles in soft tan, muted lavender, and warm brown tones, each accented with luminous pale-green tips. The combination creates a striking contrast, giving the anemone an elegant appearance. Its tentacles vary in length and thickness, with rounded tips that add texture and movement to the display.

A pale, subtly ribbed column is visible beneath the tentacles, adding another distinctive characteristic to this specimen.

Native to tropical Indo-Pacific waters, Heteractis crispa inhabits reef-associated environments, including sandy areas, coral rubble, and protected locations near hard substrate.

This species maintains a symbiotic relationship with photosynthetic dinoflagellates living within its tissues. These microscopic organisms provide an important source of energy through photosynthesis, while the anemone supplements its nutrition by capturing small marine prey.

Heteractis crispa is also a natural host for several clownfish species, providing shelter among its tentacles for compatible fish.

With its soft coloration, brilliant green tentacle tips, and graceful movement, the Green Tip Heteractis Crispa Anemone makes an attractive centerpiece for a mature, established marine aquarium.

This WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) specimen has been individually photographed, allowing you to purchase the exact anemone pictured.

Additional Care Notes

Aquarium Environment: The Green Tip Heteractis Crispa Anemone thrives in a mature marine aquarium with stable water chemistry, appropriate illumination, and consistent water circulation. Avoid sudden changes in temperature, salinity, or lighting, particularly during initial acclimation.

Placement and Attachment: Provide a protected attachment location near the sand-rock interface or within stable rubble. This species naturally inhabits reef-associated environments and may anchor its pedal disc beneath the substrate or against a secure hard surface. Allow the anemone to establish its preferred location without unnecessary disturbance.

Lighting and Water Flow: As a photosynthetic species, Heteractis crispa requires adequate illumination to support its symbiotic dinoflagellates. Moderate to high reef lighting is generally appropriate when introduced gradually. Moderate, indirect water movement allows the tentacles to sway naturally without being continuously forced against surrounding surfaces.

Feeding and Nutrition: Photosynthesis supplies an important portion of the anemone's nutritional requirements. Occasional supplemental feeding with small portions of thawed mysis shrimp, finely chopped marine shrimp, or other appropriately sized marine foods can provide additional nutrients. Avoid excessive feeding and remove uneaten food.

Compatibility: Heteractis crispa possesses stinging tentacles capable of damaging neighboring corals and other sessile invertebrates. Provide sufficient space for expansion and possible movement. Compatible clownfish may establish a natural hosting relationship, although individual behavior varies.

Handling and Safety: Minimize direct handling and never forcibly remove an attached anemone from its substrate. Damage to the pedal disc can compromise its health. Protect powerhead and wavemaker intakes, particularly during acclimation when the anemone may relocate.

Long-Term Care: Healthy specimens generally maintain secure attachment, regular tentacle expansion, and responsive feeding behavior. Temporary contraction can occur naturally, but persistent deflation, tissue deterioration, prolonged mouth gaping, or loss of attachment may indicate stress.

Order FAQs

About Our Facility

Q: Are your corals aquacultured?
A: Yes. Many of our corals are grown in our Maryland Certified & Licensed Coral Aquaculture Facility.

Q: Why choose aquacultured corals?
A: Aquacultured corals are:
- More sustainable
- Better adapted to aquarium life
- Typically hardier than wild specimens

Q: Who selects and grows your corals?
A: Our corals are grown and curated by Dr. Mac a Board Certified Veterinary Pathologist with decades of hands-on reef experience.

Ordering & Shipping

Q: What does WYSIWYG mean?
A: “What You See Is What You Get.” The exact coral shown in the photo is the one you will receive.

Q: Can I request a specific color or variation?
A: For WYSIWYG items, what’s pictured is what you get. For non-WYSIWYG items, we do our best to match color and size, but natural variation occurs.

Q: Can I combine multiple orders to save on shipping?
A: Yes—contact us before shipping and we’ll consolidate when possible.

Q: How are corals and fish shipped safely?
A: We use insulated boxes, temperature control (heat/cold packs), and overnight delivery to ensure safe arrival.

Q: What days do you ship?
A: Typically Monday–Wednesday to avoid weekend delays.

Q: Do I need to be home for delivery?
A: Yes—someone should be available to receive livestock immediately.

Q: What if my coral or fish arrives dead (DOA)?
A: Contact us within a specified timeframe (e.g., 2 hours) with clear photos, and we will resolve it quickly.

Q: What voids the guarantee?
A: Missed deliveries, improper acclimation, or delays beyond our control.

Live Arrival Guarantee

Q: What if my coral or fish arrives dead (DOA)?
A: Contact us within a specified timeframe (e.g., 2 hours) with clear photos, and we will resolve it quickly.

Q: What voids the guarantee?
A: Missed deliveries, improper acclimation, or delays beyond our control.

Acclimation & First 24 Hours

Q: How do I acclimate new livestock?
A: Float to match temperature, then drip acclimate before placing in tank.

Q: Should I dip corals before adding them?
A: Yes but be careful, coral dips help prevent pests but use caution. Certain corals might benefit from a short quarantine period instead of a dip so as to further stressing them.

Q: Why does my coral look closed or stressed?
A: This is normal after shipping—most corals open within 24–72 hours.

Aquarium Setup & Compatibility

Q: Where should I place my coral in the tank?
A: Placement depends on the coral type (LPS, SPS, soft). Lighting and flow requirements vary—check each product description.

Q: Can different corals touch each other?
A: Many corals have sweeper tentacles and can sting neighbors. Always allow space.

Q: How fast will my coral grow?
A: Growth depends on species, lighting, water quality, and feeding.
