Clove polyps are soft corals known for their delicate, daisy-like appearance and gentle swaying movement in the current. They typically grow in clusters or mats, with slender stalks topped by feathery polyps that can come in shades of tan, brown, green, or even metallic tones depending on the variety. Their soft, flowing look makes them a beautiful choice for adding motion and texture to a reef aquarium, and they are generally considered easy to moderate in care.
For care, clove polyps do best under low to moderate lighting and low to moderate water flow, which helps them open fully and keeps debris from settling on them. They prefer stable water conditions with temperature around 76–80°F, salinity about 1.025, alkalinity 8–9 dKH, calcium 400–450 ppm, and magnesium 1250–1350 ppm. While they get most of their energy from photosynthesis, they may benefit from occasional feeding of fine coral foods. Keep in mind they can spread over rockwork fairly quickly in good conditions, so it is best to give them space and place them where their growth can be managed.
