The Extra Black Percula Clownfish is a selectively bred form of the True Percula Clownfish, scientifically known as Amphiprion percula. This variety is prized for developing increased black pigmentation between and around the traditional white bands while retaining the warm orange coloration characteristic of Percula Clownfish.
The pair pictured displays bold white bands bordered by substantial black pigmentation, along with rich orange coloration on the face, fins, and portions of the body. Black coloration may continue to intensify as Percula Clownfish mature, making adult specimens especially striking.
“Extra Black” refers to the selectively bred color phenotype rather than a separate species or hybrid. Published discussion of captive clownfish color variation specifically recognizes Amphiprion percula “Extra Black” among established captive-bred forms.
