Black Dahlia Torch

Black Dahlia Torch

Euphyllia glabrescens

Size Approximately: 2.5 inches fully opened

Torch corals (Euphyllia glabrescens) are large-polyp stony (LPS) corals known for their long, flowing tentacles tipped with distinctive “torch-like” ends that create dramatic movement in reef aquariums. They come in striking color variations such as gold, green, and branching multi-color varieties, making them a highly sought-after centerpiece coral. Their graceful motion and bright coloration make them especially eye-catching under proper lighting.

For care, Torch corals prefer moderate lighting and gentle to moderate, indirect water flow to keep their long tentacles extended without causing damage. They require very stable water parameters (temperature ~76–80°F, salinity ~1.025, alkalinity 8–9 dKH, calcium 400–450 ppm, magnesium 1250–1350 ppm) and can be sensitive to sudden changes. They are semi-aggressive and can extend long sweeper tentacles, so be sure to give them plenty of space from nearby corals. While they rely on photosynthesis, they benefit from occasional feeding of small meaty foods like mysis shrimp to support growth and vitality.
