This specimen displays an exceptional mix of orange, red, pink, gold, yellow, and green tones arranged across heavily folded tissue, producing a dramatic multicolor appearance. Acanthophyllia deshayesiana forms a single large corallite rather than a colony of separate polyps, and the living tissue can expand well beyond the underlying skeleton when fully inflated. Like other photosynthetic reef-building corals, it contains symbiotic dinoflagellates that provide much of its energy, while the large fleshy polyp is also capable of capturing appropriately sized meaty foods.

Care Guide: Acanthophyllia deshayesiana generally performs best under low to moderate reef lighting with gentle to moderate, indirect water movement. Strong direct flow can cause the fleshy tissue to remain contracted or rub against the skeleton, so placement in a calmer area is preferred. Position the coral on a stable, relatively flat surface where the expanded tissue will not contact sharp rockwork. Maintain stable temperature and salinity along with consistent alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium to support skeletal health. Nitrate and phosphate should remain measurable and stable rather than being driven excessively low. Photosynthesis provides much of its energy, but occasional targeted feeding with appropriately sized pieces of marine-origin foods can supplement nutrition. Allow generous space around the coral because the tissue can expand substantially beyond the visible skeleton.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2133/7655/files/ultra-acanthophyllia-lps-coral-colonies-pea-HP-OC1937.jpg?v=1792456857
