This specimen displays rich crimson-red to magenta tissue with pale pink highlights and a bright yellow to cream central mouth area, creating strong contrast across the inflated polyp. The thick fleshy folds radiate outward from the center and can expand substantially when the coral is fully inflated. Indophyllia macassarensis contains symbiotic photosynthetic dinoflagellates that provide much of its nutritional energy, while the large polyp is also capable of capturing appropriately sized meaty marine foods. Its heavy tissue and solitary growth form make it a distinctive centerpiece coral in a mature reef aquarium.

Care Guide: Indophyllia macassarensis generally does best under low to moderate reef lighting with gentle to moderate, indirect water movement. Excessively strong flow can prevent full inflation or damage the fleshy tissue. Place the coral on a stable, relatively smooth surface where the tissue cannot rub against sharp rock edges. Maintain stable temperature and salinity along with consistent alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, nitrate, and phosphate. Although primarily photosynthetic, Indophyllia can benefit from occasional targeted feeding with appropriately sized meaty marine foods when feeding tentacles or the mouth are receptive. Allow generous spacing from neighboring corals because the expanded tissue can extend well beyond the underlying skeleton, and direct contact may lead to irritation or stinging.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2133/7655/files/red-indophyllia-lps-coral-colonies-pea-HP-OC1912.jpg?v=1792444922
